After a Series of inspection, it turned out that 5 of the firm construction sites were mosquito breeding grounds. Just when you think that things could not get any worse, guess what, it did! Traces of rat droppings were found at 1 of the sites. 4 of the other firm’s construction sites were called to a halt as they were issued with a stop to work orders, due to poor work conditions.

The company had to face 13 charges under the Control of Vectors and Pesticides Act and 3 other charges under the Environmental Protection and Management Act.

The management had to close their store and start ramping up its cleanliness standards. The store had accumulated 12 demerit points over the 12 months for failing to keep its licensed premises free of rodent and cockroach infestation. Therefore, Plaza Singapura’s Toast Box was suspended and had to attend and pass the Basic Food Hygiene Course again. Toast Box at the same time took the opportunity to rectify the problem and had called in pest control and sanitising the entire outlet and at the same time the outlet took the time and closed the store for renovation in order to rectify the situation. 

Obayed Holdings’ Central Kitchen 

Back in 2019 December, the central kitchen operator was fined $6000 for failing to ensure that its premises were properly kept clean and maintained. A widespread cockroach infestation on the premises, structural damages such as cracked floor tiles in the cooking room as well as bad housekeeping which resulted in the presence of houseflies and ants in the cutting room. Dead cockroaches were also found in pots and cockroach eggs on a stove were also found by food safety inspectors.
